Which disorders we treat

The endocrinology clinic treats hormonal disorders and metabolic diseases: diseases of the pituitary and adrenal glands, sex hormone disorders, polycystic ovary syndrome, osteoporosis, lipid metabolism disorders and obesity with related complications. For thyroid disease, the thyroid clinic is available at the centre.

The reason for a visit is often vague symptoms that last a long time. Marked tiredness, hair loss, menstrual cycle disorders, excessive thirst with frequent urination, or changes in weight without a change in diet. Hormonal disorders rarely show through a single sign, so the whole picture matters.

Diabetes and metabolic disorders

For diabetes, care includes assessing how well the disease is controlled, reviewing your treatment so far, judging the risk of complications and agreeing on further monitoring. The same applies to prediabetes and insulin resistance, where diet and physical activity are often the first step.

The assessment requires laboratory results, most often fasting blood sugar and HbA1c, which shows your average sugar level over recent months. If you measure your sugar at home or use a sensor, bring the records of your readings. The pattern of values over the day tells more than a single number.

Osteoporosis and calcium metabolism disorders are assessed together with a bone density measurement report, when available, and laboratory results. Treatment is planned according to the overall risk of fracture, not just one value in a report.

What happens during the examination

The examination begins with a conversation about your symptoms, illnesses in your family, medicines and lifestyle. A physical examination follows, with measurement of blood pressure and body measurements.

Hormone levels depend on the time the blood is taken, the phase of the menstrual cycle and certain medicines, so the doctor often orders targeted tests and tells you when and how they should be done. For this reason the first visit is often for directing the tests, and the final assessment follows at a follow-up appointment with the results.

Do not stop or change hormone treatment on your own before the examination. Suddenly stopping certain medicines can cause a worsening, so agree any change with your doctor.

Referral and self-pay examination

The endocrinology clinic works on a self-pay basis, so you do not need a referral and can book yourself.

Bring laboratory results from the past year, imaging reports, a list of medicines with doses and the dietary supplements you take. You receive a report with recommendations after the examination; further management often takes place with your personal doctor, and we agree on follow-ups with the endocrinologist depending on the course of the disease.
