Eye clinic
Eye and vision examinations with a specialist ophthalmologist.
Scope of services
Self-payWhat happens at the examination
The examination begins with a conversation about your problems, your current glasses or lenses, medicines and illnesses that can affect the eyes, such as diabetes or high blood pressure.
This is followed by measuring visual acuity and determining your prescription, examining the front of the eye and measuring eye pressure. To look at the back of the eye, the pupils often need to be dilated with drops.
After drops to dilate the pupils, your vision is blurred for a few hours and your eyes are sensitive to light. So do not plan to drive a car that day. Come with someone or by public transport, and bring sunglasses with you.
At the end you receive a report with the findings and recommendations, and if needed a prescription for glasses or instructions for a follow-up after a certain time.
When to book an appointment
Adults without problems and without a prescription usually have an examination every few years, more often after the age of forty, when age-related long-sightedness appears. Anyone who wears glasses or lenses needs a check when their vision changes and at the interval suggested by the specialist.
Book sooner if you notice gradually worsening vision, double vision, poorer vision in dim light, frequent headaches when reading, or if your child has difficulty seeing the board, squints and brings their head close to the exercise book.
Some signs cannot wait: sudden loss of vision, flashes of light with a sudden shower of floaters, a shadow or curtain across part of your field of vision, severe eye pain with redness and vomiting, and an eye injury or chemical burn. In these cases, seek emergency eye care immediately.
Booking and payment
Examinations are self-pay, so you do not need a referral. Book using the online form or by phone, and check the price of a particular service when booking.
Bring the glasses and lenses you use, if possible also older glasses, as well as reports from previous eye examinations and a list of your medicines.
We ask contact lens wearers not to wear them for some time before the examination, as a lens changes the shape of the cornea and therefore the measured values. How long before the examination, you will be told when booking.
