Occupational, traffic and sports medicine (MDPŠ)
Preventive check-ups for employees, driving licence medicals and check-ups for athletes.
Scope of services
Self-payPreventive check-ups for employees
An occupational medicine doctor does not assess health alone. They assess the relationship between the health of a particular person and the demands of a particular job. The same result can mean full fitness for office work and a restriction for working at height or on night shifts.
At the clinic we carry out pre-employment preventive check-ups, periodic targeted check-ups during employment and other check-ups ordered by the employer on the basis of the risk assessment for a particular job. The result is a medical certificate with an assessment of whether the specific health requirements are met.
The basic examination for office work includes an examination by a specialist in occupational, traffic and sports medicine, blood and urine tests, the Roda test of visual function, an ECG, spirometry to assess lung capacity and the final opinion of the specialist. Depending on the demands of the job, further examinations can be done by arrangement.
The basis for the check-up is the employer's referral, which must include a description of the job and its demands. Without this description the doctor has no starting point for the assessment, so as a rule the check-up cannot be carried out.
Health promotion in the company
Occupational safety and health regulations require employers to plan and carry out measures to maintain their employees' health. In practice, this obligation often ends with a document in a drawer, even though the problems employees describe are quite concrete: back and neck pain from sedentary work, eye strain, sleep problems with shift work, exhaustion.
We work with employers on preparing and running health promotion programmes: ergonomic advice for workplaces, talks and workshops for employees, and advice on the content of the health promotion plan. The scope is agreed according to the size of the company and the nature of the work.
The content of the programme is agreed in advance, together with the employer's representatives. Information about an individual employee's health stays between the doctor and the employee; the employer receives only the assessment of fitness for work and any restrictions.
Programmes for companies
The programmes for companies are designed to prevent and detect chronic diseases and cancer in time and to deal with employees’ everyday health problems. We adapt the services and programmes to the needs of each company.
For managers and other employees under heavier strain there is Redni servis, also called the manager check-up. It is an in-depth preventive check-up that identifies the most important risk factors for heart and vascular disease and cancer. It is described in more detail on the Redni servis page.
ZZ Zdravje also presents the Pravočasno programme to companies, which makes access to specialist clinics easier and faster for employees. Whether and in what form the programme is currently available, check when you make arrangements with the centre.
Driver medicals
A medical examination for drivers is required before obtaining a driving licence for the first time, when renewing it for some categories, and in cases where the competent authority requires it. The examination includes an assessment of vision, hearing and general health, and a review of medicines and illnesses that may affect safe driving.
Bring an identity document, your glasses or contact lenses if you use them, and results and details of the medicines you take. If you have a chronic illness, for example diabetes, epilepsy or a sleep disorder, also bring the latest reports from the specialist treating you.
Before the examination, fill in a health questionnaire. Answer accurately – the information is the basis for the doctor's assessment, and withholding information may affect the validity of the certificate.
Sports medicals
The sports medical examination is intended for registered athletes and anyone preparing for greater physical demands – from competitive programmes to amateur marathons. Its purpose is to assess whether there are any health obstacles to the planned training intensity.
The examination includes a conversation about your medical history and family history, a physical examination and measurements, and further tests if the doctor considers them necessary. Particular attention is paid to the cardiovascular system and to musculoskeletal injuries.
The programmes are self-pay, but they are often paid for by the employer, club or association. When booking, say who is paying and what kind of certificate you need, as the scope of the examination and the form of the document issued differ accordingly.
